Cats emerged as vital allies in controlling these rodent populations that posed a threat to crops. Thus began the enduring relationship between cats and humans, a bond that remains evident today. Some jest that, between humans and cats, the latter may actually be the &#8220;owners&#8221; due to their independent and assertive demeanor.<\/p>\n<p>Enter Oscar, dubbed the &#8220;therapy cat&#8221; or &#8220;hospice cat&#8221; at Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rhode Island, United States. This facility specializes in caring for individuals with end-stage Alzheimer\u2019s, Parkinson\u2019s disease, and other illnesses. Oscar gained notoriety for purportedly possessing the ability to sense when patients were nearing the end of their lives. Over his six-month tenure, staff noticed a peculiar pattern: Oscar often gravitated towards patients who would later pass away.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Dosa revealed in an interview that Oscar initially kept to himself, favoring solitary spots. However, observers soon noticed that he would occasionally approach a patient and nap beside them until their passing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As we observed this behavior repeatedly,&#8221; Dr. Dosa explained, &#8220;we began to realize that the individuals Oscar stayed with tended to be the next ones to pass away. Apart from their independence, which makes them low-maintenance pets, we&#8217;re drawn to their playful and adorable nature. Although their roles may have evolved since ancient times, cats still offer comfort and companionship.
